‘Selected Shorts’ Performance in Whitefish

By Beacon Staff

If you’re a regular NPR listener like I am, you have certainly heard the stories from the “Selected Shorts” series.

This series, described by NPR as “story time for adults,” showcases short stories from all over dealing with everything from the dramatic to the comedic. On Oct. 2, Montana Public Radio brings the show to Whitefish for a live performance of “Funny Fictions.”

A selection of humorous short stories will be read by actors on stage for the audience:

Dorothy Parker’s classic story “But the One on the Right,” read by Emmy-nominated actress Christina Pickles
Four-time Tony winner Boyd Gaines reading “Subsoil,” a tale of vengeful potatoes by Nicholson Baker
David Schickler’s tale of unintentional eaves dropping, “Jamaica,” read by Selected Shorts host Isaiah Sheffer

NPR’s solid series should account for an entertaining performance in Whitefish. The event takes place on Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. in the Whitefish Middle School Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $25, and can be purchased online or at all Montana Coffee Trader locations.
