A 16-year-old Kalispell girl has been charged with two counts of deliberate homicide in a fatal crash that killed a pregnant woman and her son last March.
Authorities say the girl’s car crossed the center line of U.S. 93 north of Kalispell and slammed into another car, killing 35-year-old Erin Thompson of Columbia Falls and her 13-year-old son, Caden Vincent Odell.
The girl spent months in the hospital and is now home. But she has to wear a monitoring bracelet and can’t drive. She’s allowed to meet with her lawyer and go to school and medical appointments.
Investigators believe the girl was trying to commit suicide after arguing with her boyfriend earlier in the day.
Shortly before the crash, she sent him several text messages, including one that said, “Good bye… My last words…” and one that said, “If I won. I would have you. And I wouldn’t crash my car.”
The girl is scheduled to have another court hearing next month.
