Rehberg Won’t Commit on Baucus Proposal

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – U.S. Rep. Denny Rehberg compliments U.S. Sen. Max Baucus for his sweeping health care proposal – but doesn’t go so far as to say he will support it.

Rehberg says in a statement that Baucus’ hard work hard work in putting together a bill on such a complex issue shows that Baucus is trying to do what’s best for the country.

Rehberg the Republican has been fairly critical of Democratic reform proposals brewing in Congress. But Baucus’ plan is viewed as the most moderate of the offerings.

Rehberg says there’s still a lot of work to be done and the says that “devil is always in the details.”

But not even Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Tester is promising to back the plan, which aims to cut costs in order to pay for nearly univeral coverage. Tester says he will be reading it closely.
