HELENA – The Montana Republican Party has a new executive director.

GOP Chairman Will Deschamps announced the appointment of Gary K. Carlson on Wednesday.

Deschamps says Carlson has decades of grassroots organizing and legislative advocacy experience.

Carlson has worked for Republican candidates and pro-family causes in Montana, Minnesota, California and Virginia.

He served in the Marines in Vietnam and taught college level U.S. Government courses.

Carlson replaces Max Hunsaker, who is stepping down to devote more time to his graduate school studies.

Carlson will take over the job in January.
