HELENA – The Montana National Guard says 130 soldiers with the 639th Quartermaster Company are expected to return home about Jan. 1.
The 130 troops deployed in January to Iraq, where they conducted transportation, fuel and maintenance missions.
Public relations officer Lt. Dan Bushnell says the soldiers were expected to return to Fort Lewis, Wash., around Christmas Day and begin out-processing for an anticipated homecoming about New Year’s Day.
Some family members have said they were disappointed that the troops wouldn’t be home for Christmas. Bushnell says mission requirements, aircraft availability and other wartime factors can delay soldiers’ return dates.
The 639th is headquartered in Havre with units in Libby and Kalispell.
