NorthWestern Sued Again for Bozeman Explosion

By Beacon Staff

BOZEMAN – Another lawsuit has been filed against NorthWestern Energy after a March 5 natural-gas explosion that killed one woman and destroyed half a city block.

State Farm Fire and Casualty Co. filed the complaint in Gallatin County District Court last week, asking for $955 plus interest for money it paid to Posh, a downtown clothing and jewelry store. The store filed a claim with the insurer for lost income during a three-day closure after the explosion, which killed 36-year-old Tara Reistad Bowman.

In December, the insurance company filed a lawsuit asking for nearly $4,000 on behalf of a man whose car was parked near the explosion site.

NorthWestern does not make statements to the media on pending lawsuits, but has denied liability for the explosion in court documents.
