Flathead Authorities Ram Vehicle to End High-Speed Chase

After leading authorities on a high-speed chase from Evergreen to Columbia Falls on Sunday, a man suspected of reckless driving was apprehended when sheriff’s deputies rammed his vehicle with their own cars.

The driver has been identified as Matt Plessinger. Plessinger was arrested and transported to the Flathead County Detention Center. He had numerous outstanding warrants in addition to pending felony charges.

At about noon on Sunday, deputies from the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office located a red Scion that was suspected in a report of reckless driving. Deputies attempted a traffic stop on the car in the Evergreen area, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

The driver initially pulled over but then drove away. Deputies and the suspect then engaged in a high-speed car chase that reached speeds in excess of 100 mph traveling north on U.S. Highway 2 East toward Columbia Falls.

The suspect vehicle continued at a high rate of speed down Talbot Road, as officers slowed their speed, according to the press release. Deputies reengaged the suspect on Columbia Falls Stage Road and ended the pursuit by striking the vehicle with their cars.

Three county vehicles received front-end damage. The suspect vehicle received moderate damage. The Flathead County deputies were assisted by officers from the Montana Highway Patrol and the Columbia Falls Police Department.
