Bozeman Natural Gas Leak Promptly Capped

By Beacon Staff

BOZEMAN – Fire officials in Bozeman evacuated the north half of a city block after a garbage truck knocked loose a gas meter causing a natural gas leak.

Officials say the meter damaged about 6:30 a.m. Friday was one that was replaced following a huge natural-gas explosion in March of 2009 that killed one woman and took out half a city block.

Officials say Friday’s gas leak was capped within half an hour and people were allowed back into the evacuated buildings by 8 a.m.

Fire officials say the pick-up arm of an Allied Waste Management truck hit the meter located in the alley between Tracy and Bozeman avenues.
