HELENA – Carroll College student Republicans and tea party activists are criticizing the school’s last-minute cancellation of a town hall meeting featuring a well-known conservative law professor.
Carroll College said Tuesday that scheduling problems caused them to cancel the Thursday event with University of Montana professor Rob Natelson.
But student Republicans say they scheduled the event two months ago, and that the college told them complaints raised about the town hall had prompted a review — and the cancellation.
Chairman Chris Shipp says it is “ridiculous” that a constitutional law professor would make the college so nervous.
A college spokeswoman says the student group backing the event didn’t follow proper booking procedures and another speaker was slated for the same time.
The event is now scheduled to be held off campus.
