Polson Man Dies, Run Over by Pickup

By Beacon Staff

POLSON – The Montana Highway Patrol says a Polson man was killed when his pickup truck rolled over his chest while he was under the truck working on the parking brake of a fifth wheel trailer.

Trooper Terry Rosenbaum says the man stopped in the westbound lane of Highway 35 at about 1 p.m. Wednesday when the trailer’s parking brake engaged.

Rosenbaum says the man crawled under the pickup to work on the brakes. However, he left the pickup in drive and when the trailer brakes disengaged, the back wheels of the pickup rolled over his chest.

Rosenbaum says the man, who was in his 80s, died at St. Joseph Hospital in Polson a short time later. His name hasn’t been released.
