FVCC Community Garden Dedication

By Beacon Staff

The trees are budding in Kalispell. Grass is turning green. Sometimes it rains, sometimes it’s sunny and there are more out-of-town and out-of-state license plates taking up parking spots on Main Street (no complaints about that!) and driving with their eyes on the lake and mountains instead of on U.S. Highway 93 (some complaints about that.)

It’s spring.

If you haven’t noticed, that’s fair, because winter keeps trying to make a comeback. However, I couldn’t be happier about the warmer weather and the dramatic clouds that often form this time of year. So in honor of springtime, here’s another notice about a local community garden.

This one’s at Flathead Valley Community College and the info is from them:

Flathead Valley Community College and Nourish the Flathead will celebrate the opening of the new Flathead Community Garden with a dedication May 12 at 4 p.m.
FVCC President Jane Karas and Shareen Springer of Nourish the Flathead will dedicate the garden along with the help of students enrolled in the college’s Early Childhood Center.
The Flathead Community Garden provides four-feet by eight-feet raised beds for members of the Flathead Valley community to rent along with an orchard area, a children’s garden, areas for various FVCC academic and career programs to utilize as part of their curricula and areas for local schools and youth programs.
The event is free and open to the public and will take place at the Flathead Community Garden behind the Arts and Technology Building on the FVCC campus.
For more information, contact Springer at 270-6402 or at [email protected].

The folks in the Bigfork/Ferndale area recently celebrated the opening of their community garden as well. It’s nice to see people getting out into the sun, no matter how sparse it may be this time of year.
