A 68-year-old Kalispell man who police say struck a 74-year-old in the back with a hatchet, threw a military knife at a police officer and harmed himself with another knife has been taken into custody.
Police responding to a call on Friday say they found the man in the center of a street armed with a hatchet and knives, and subdued him with a Taser.
Police say the man was treated at Kalispell Regional Medical Center and underwent a psychological evaluation. Police say the man has not been arrested but is being held until results of the evaluation are received.
Police say the 74-year-old man sustained only minor injures because his adult son saw the attack coming and managed to deflect the hatchet.
Police say the knife the 68-year-old man threw at a police officer missed and struck a patrol vehicle instead.
