Police ID Man Who Died After Failing Breath Test

By Beacon Staff

Kalispell police have identified the man who apparently shot himself on May 30 after failing an alcohol breath test as Bradley Franklin.

Investigators believe Franklin, 40, of Kalispell, died from a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to the Kalispell Police Department, Franklin arrived at the compliance monitoring facility for a court-ordered breath test on the morning of May 30. The staff there alerted KPD at about 8 a.m. that they had a subject who had failed the breath test, thereby violating the conditions of his probation, and needed to be taken into custody.

Franklin then fled the compliance monitoring facility to his Kalispell residence on Seventh Avenue WN. As officers were approaching the front door, they heard a single gunshot from inside the residence and backed off, forming a perimeter.

KPD negotiators attempted to contact the man inside, to no avail. The department’s Special Response Team responded with the BEAR vehicle; SRT officers eventually went inside the residence and found Franklin, deceased at the scene.
