GREAT FALLS — About 800 Montana workers will be affected by the civilian furloughs planned due to automatic budget cuts in the Department of Defense.
The Great Falls Tribune reports about 525 civilian personnel at Malmstrom Air Force Base and more than 200 with the Montana National Guard, plus some Army personnel, received furlough notices over the past week.
Guard spokesman Maj. Tim Crowe says notices also went out to full-time technicians with at the 120th Fighter Wing in Great Falls
The 11 furlough days are expected to be taken between July 8 and the end of the fiscal year, which is Sept. 30.
Montana workers will lose $3.2 million in pay.
The furloughs were triggered after Congress failed to make budget cuts required in a 2011 budget law.
