A contractor hit a gas line during construction on the Whitefish – West project on U.S. Highway 93, causing the portion of the highway between Karrow Avenue and Baker Avenue to be closed off to traffic on Wednesday afternoon.
As of 2:50 p.m., the gas line was fixed and traffic returned to normal, according to the Montana Department of Transportation.
The closed section, which included the Whitefish River bridge, was off limits to drivers while crews fixed the line.
The project is focusing on the stretch of Highway 93 between Baker Avenue and Karrow Avenue. Crews began working on April 15 and will continue through the summer before shutting down for the winter.
