July Visitation Up in Glacier Park

The National Park Service estimated Glacier attracted more than 645,000 visitors in July, a 2.4 percent increase over a year ago.

The total year-to-date visitation is 3.2 percent over the same period in 2012. More than 1.15 million people have entered the park, compared to 1.12 million a year ago.

The number of recreationists staying overnight was up 3.8 percent last month and is 6.5 percent higher than 2012.

Visitation statistics are calculated by taking the actual number of wheeled vehicles entering the park gates, and using a person-per-person vehicle multiplier to calculate the number of monthly recreational visitors. The multipliers have been used for nearly 20 years to gauge park usage.
