Searches for Missing Boaters Temporarily Halted

By Beacon Staff

POLSON — Searches for two men missing in Flathead and Placid lakes have been temporarily suspended.

Lake County authorities searching Flathead Lake for 36-year-old Nathan Bird of Huson have halted the search until a sonar device with a camera and a grabbing mechanism arrives from Idaho.

Lake County sheriff’s spokeswoman Karen Sargeant said Tuesday the device will allow searchers to probe deeper in the lake.

Bird’s boat was found adrift Sunday in an area of the lake more than 100 feet deep.

Sargeant says the search should resume Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Missoula County authorities say there isn’t enough manpower for now to continue their search of Placid Lake for a Great Falls man who went missing Friday.

The Missoulian reports volunteer groups are expected to resume the search for DelRay Saeman on Friday.
