HELENA – Authorities say a western Montana wildfire that burned four homes when it first flared up is nearly contained.
The Lolo Creek Complex was 95 percent contained Monday after burning more than 17 square miles. Fire officials say crews are mainly patrolling, mopping up and improving fire lines, while the fire activity inside the perimeter was expected to be minimal.
A 45 mph speed limit is being enforced on U.S. Highway 2 near the Idaho state line.
Fire crews in south-central Montana also report progress on the Rock Creek fire south of Red Lodge.
The Billings Gazette reports the 950-acre fire is 85 percent contained and no structures are threatened.
The Miner Paradise Complex south of Livingston is 59 percent contained. Officials reported Monday fire behavior increased with higher temperatures and lower humidity.
