A Whitefish man pleaded not guilty in Flathead County District Court on Sept. 25 after he allegedly charged his girlfriend with an axe in August.

Bruce Charles Ramlow has been charged with assault with a weapon and partner or family member assault.

According to court documents, Whitefish police officers responded to a disturbance on Park Avenue on Aug. 31. The reporting party told police that his son was “out of control” and had just left the residence with a female, later identified as his girlfriend.

Police soon found the vehicle and pulled it over. The girlfriend told police that Ramlow had been beating her and was hitting her in the arms, back and chest. She also told police that earlier in the day, Ramlow had grabbed a 3- or 4-foot long axe and charged after her.

Ramlow was placed under arrest and taken to the Flathead County Jail. He is being held on $100,000 bail.

If convicted, Ramlow could face a fine of $50,000 and spend 20 years in prison.
