barns he’s salvaged; and Joli Johnson, whose faux painting matches recess light xtures with natural installations of rock and wood.
Each artist o ers a di erent back- ground, but they’ve all come together in the Flathead Valley for a similar reason, and each o ers a di erent story.
Joe Gallagher, owner of Wild Sky Woodwork in West Glacier, conveys those stories by attaching a story-card to each piece he builds – a living history of the barns he reclaims.
“When you take down an old barn, you feel like you’re taking down a little bit of history. And by telling its story you help that history live on,” Gallagher said.
By mastering the craft of faux-paint- ing, Johnson has learned to paint
features on-site, so as to match the lighting of a given space.
“It’s all about matching light, color and texture,” she said.
Most importantly, it’s the crafts- man’s devotion to quality.
“I want to showcase the faces and stories about these artisans that make up these timeless features of a beautiful home,” Prunty said.
In October, she teamed up with Dun- can, of Sierra Paci c Windows, who o ered her the opportunity to cre- ate an environment where she could bring these friends, artists and stories together.

A new photography exhibit
focusing on life on Montana’s
Indian reservations will go on
display this month at Kalis-
pell’s Hockaday Museum of Art.
The exhibit, called “Shadow
Catcher,” stems from a collec-
tion of photos taken by Harry
Lee Harpster Jr. that was
acquired by the museum in 2010.
Many of the photos were taken
on the Blackfeet and Rocky Boy
Reservations between 1979 and
2001. “The negatives selected for
printing focus on annual pow wows and rodeos, and are more documen- tary in nature than many of his images,” said curator Margaret S. Davis. “He captured with warmth and ease encampment scenes, preparations for parades and dancing, games of chance, the booths and vendors, spec- tators, and cowboy competitors.” The opening reception will be held Thursday, Jan. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. Admission is free for Hockaday mem- bers and $10 for non-members. The show runs from Jan. 7 to Feb. 20.
