THE SENIOR TRADE COMMISSIONER FOR Canada, Jerome Pischella, recently visited a few Montana cities, including Kalispell, at the invita- tion of Montana’s World Trade Center, to reach out to Mon- tana businesses and leaders for strengthening relation- ships between U.S. and Canadian citizens.
Commissioner Pischella encourages Montana busi- nesses to contact his office, the Consulate General of Cana- da, in Denver, Colorado, if the Canadian commissioner can provide valuable information to Montana businesses ana- lyzing how to serve Canadian market opportunities.
The website for the Canadian Trade Office in Denver is www.denver.gc.ca. The Denver trade office phone number is 303.626.0640. The U.S. Commercial Service, a program of the U.S. Department of Commerce, provides a “Practical Guide To Doing Business in Canada.”
The guide is a manual for those firms desiring to provide services or products to Canada. The 16-page guide is avail- able at no cost by PDF or hard copy from Montana West Economic Development, the Flathead/Glacier Park re- gion’s economic development nonprofit agency. To request a guide, call the Montana West office at 406.257.7711 x 5.
The realistic opportunities include government pro- curement, defense products and services, safety and se- curity equipment, energy and environment, automo- tive, aerospace, travel and tourism, power generation, oil and gas, information and communications technolo- gy, and mining.
For Montana registered businesses, there are state supported services that provide free, timely advice on how to contract with the government, including the Canadian government. If you would like to research your business’ ability to export to Canada, contact the Flathead/Glacier Park region’s expert on government contracting at Mon- tana West Economic Development. The consultations are at no cost to explore the opportunities.
While on the topic of government contracting, Glacier National Park and Montana West Economic Development are collaborating to host a free seminar on how to contract with Glacier National Park for services and products. The seminar requires no advance registration and is Feb. 5, 10 am, at Flathead Valley Community College, Arts And Technology Building, Room 139.
If you would like more information about the seminar contact Montana West at 406.257.7711 and ask for Doug Bolender, the region’s certified contracting advisor.
Kellie Danielson is president and CEO of Montana West Eco- nomic Development and Flathead County Economic Develop- ment Authority, based in Kalispell.
