With weather like this, how can you stay indoors?
It’s hard to believe that the Flathead Valley was buried in snow just a few weeks ago, and now temperatures are hovering around the 40s. This corner of the state has an abundance of outdoor adventures worth enjoying while the sun is out. Among the many fun oppor- tunities, Lone Pine State Park is hosting its weekly “snowshoe discovery hikes” every Saturday. The park is just a few minutes from Kalispell and provides a scenic panorama of the entire valley. On sunny days like these, it’s truly spectac- ular.
The snowshoe walks are from 1-2 p.m. Each walk is led by a Montana State Parks ranger and the cost is $4 per per- son. The ranger will lead hikers through the labyrinth of trails, which stretch for 7.5 miles. There will be a demonstration on the basics of snowshoeing for begin- ners, and equipment can be rented from the Lone Pine Visitor Center for $5.
The visitor center is located at 300 Lone Pine Rd. The center is open Wednesday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. during winter. Call 406- 755-2706 for more information.
