EXPLORE
Lakeside and Somers Winterfest

By JUSTIN FRANZ of the Beacon

 The 16th annual Lakeside and
Somers Winterfest is Feb. 1. The celebra-

tion of winter is a fantastic way to ex-
plore these welcoming communities and
a great excuse to hit the slopes of Black-
tail Mountain, where ski and snowboard
races will take place.
The event kicks of that day at the
Lakeside Chapel at 7 a.m. with a pancake

breakfast that goes until 10 a.m. The
breakfast is $5 per person, $15 per family
and children under 4 years old eat free.
Next up, at 9:30 a.m., registration starts
for the 12th annual Family Cup Ski and
Snowboard Races at the Blacktail Moun-
tain Lodge. For more information call
406-844-0999. At the end of the day,

there’s a pig roast at Tamarack Brewing
Company at 5 p.m.
For more information visit www.
blacktailmountain.com.

HOW TO GET THERE: From Kalispell, drive

south on U.S. Highway 93 for about 15
miles to Lakeside. Near the Tamarack
Brewing Company, take a right on Blacktail
Mountain Road and follow it to the ski hill.

Skiers ascend Blacktail Mountain.
