Canyon Communities Gear Up For Cabin Fever Days
Annual festival a fund- raiser for local charities, including Martin City Fire Department and Canyon Kids Christmas Fund
By JUSTIN FRANZ of the Beacon
One of the Flathead Valley’s most cherished events descends on Bad Rock Canyon this weekend. Martin City’s Cabin Fever Days runs from Feb. 13 to 15 and organizers are expecting a record turnout for the event’s 37th year.
“It’s a guaranteed good time,” said Stacey Schnebel, owner of the Stonefly Lounge and president of the Trapline Association.
The Trapline Association is a non- profit organization established in the 1990s that puts on the annual festival. The event raises money for local chari- ties and last year donated more than $8,000 to the organizations, including the Martin City Volunteer Fire Depart- ment, the Canyon Quick Response Unit, the Canyon Kids Christmas Fund and the Canyon Community Group.
This year’s event features a full slate of activities, including the legend- ary barstool ski races. Schnebel said
organizers are expecting a record num- ber of participants this year. There are also numerous food vendors and musi- cal performances. There again will be events aimed at children, a tradition that began last year. Kids will be able to partake in sled races, gunny sack races, a haystack search, a magic show and a puppet show. There will also be a cab- in fever coloring contest. There will be
games for the adults, too, including arm wrestling contests and a shuffleboard tournament.
Cabin Fever Days buttons, which are required to get into most events, are $3 each and are available at all of the can- yon bars and at the registration tent in Martin City. For more information, visit www.cabinfeverdays.com.
