Pick up some new techniques, sharpen your oil painting skills and simply enjoy the joy of completing a finished painting, landscape or still life, in a two-day workshop with artist Rob Akey. All skill levels are encouraged to participate. $150. Q: 837-6927
ANIMAL TRACKS & SIGN COURSE, 9 AM Northwest Connections, Swan Valley
Two-day introductory tracking class. Participants will learn how to recognize animals by track, gait pattern, habitat selection, behavior and other sign. Animal Tracks & Sign instructors have years of experience in snow tracking, anchored in Northwest Connections’ conserva- tion field work surveying for rare forest carnivores. $250 course fee includes lectures, guided field sessions, and transportation around the valley. Whitefish Review is hosting Douglas H. Chadwick, who will be reading from his book in progress about the bears of the Gobi desert– wild, endangered creatures that exist in one of the harshest environments on earth. In addition to being a regular contributor to National Geographic magazine, Chadwick has written 12 books about wildlife and conservation. After the readings, live music will kick off at 9 p.m. by Marshall Catch, an indie rock band from Kalispell.
