Montana Pond Hockey Classic

By JUSTIN FRANZ of the Beacon

It’s been a hit in New England and
Canada, and now it’s coming to the Flat-

head Valley: The Kalispell Convention
and Visitor Bureau is hosting the Mon-
tana Pond Hockey Classic at Foys Lake
west of Kalispell. The event is slated for
Feb. 21-23 and features more than 50
teams.
The Pond Hockey Classic was es-

tablished on Lake Winnipesaukee in
New Hampshire’s White Mountains
and has since expanded. The event fea-
tures a four-on-four pond hockey tour-
nament and teams have been signing
up for weeks. According to organizers,
two of the New England-based tourna-
ments annually attract between 125 and

225 teams from across the U.S. Kalispell
organizers believe the event will attract
about 600 participants and roughly
1,200 spectators on each of the three
days.
Events kick of Thursday, Feb. 20,
with player check in and a party at Tam-

arack Brewing Company in Lakeside. On
Friday and Saturday games start at 8:30
a.m. and on Sunday playof games kick
of at 9 a.m. The championship games
start at 1:30 p.m. and the awards are at
2:15. There will also be a beer garden.
