Ski Season Ends with a Splash

By DILLON TABISH of the Beacon

 Alas, another abundant winter is
coming to an end, but not without a fes-

tive tradition that shouldn’t be missed.
Whiteish Mountain Resort is hosting
the annual pond skim starting at 2:30
p.m. Saturday, April 5, on the second-
to-last day of the ski season. This popu-
lar event draws hundreds (sometimes
thousands) of spectators who watch the

latest batch of brave skiers and snow-
boarders dressed in creative attire try
to skim across the makeshift pond. Only
60 slots are available and they ill up fast,
so if you’re 21 or older and interested in
skimming, then sign up online at ski-
whiteish.com. A total of $1,100 is up for
grabs, including prizes for best costume,

best crash and male and female winners.
Costumes are required. The competi-
tion will not feature a 25-foot jump like
last year, but this year’s event will still be
a spectacle worth seeing.

HOW TO GET THERE: The pond skim is held
at the base of Chair 1 at Whiteish Mountain
Resort, located at 3889 Big Mountain
Road.
