Carved by glaciers more than 10,000 years ago, Flathead Lake contains over 200 square miles of water
and 187.6 miles of shoreline. It is considered the largest natural freshwater lake in the West.
Lars Haar, a 1993 graduate of Flathead High School, was named the best river guide in America by Outside magazine. The son of Karen and Loren Haar is featured in the April issue. He began his career guiding on the Flathead River for Great Northern Raft Company and has spent the past 15 years working for O.A.R.S. International, mainly on the vaunted Colorado River through the Grand Canyon.

There are only 30 active super volcanoes in the world and Yellowstone National Park is home to the only one located on land.
Yellowstone national Park has one of the world’s largest calderas, measuring 45 x 30 miles.
Scientists say The mountains of Glacier National Park began forming 170 million years ago when the ancient rocks were forced eastward up and over much younger rock strata. Known as the Lewis Overthrust, these sedimentary rocks are considered to have some of the finest fossilized examples of extremely early life found anywhere on Earth.
