FLATHEAD AND GREAT FALLS C.M. RUS-
sell were tied 64-all with less than one second remaining when Matt stepped to the free throw line. In his first full season as a starter, the ju- nior guard showed poise under pres- sure, sinking the game-winning free throw. He finished with 22 points that night, one shy of his season- high 23 against Coeur d’Alene. Head coach Fred Febach lost all five of his starters from the previous season but Matt quickly developed into a sharp-shooting leader for the Braves this winter. Growing up in the Flat- head Valley, Matt first started play- ing in fifth grade at Fair-Mont-Egan. He had a natural shot from an early age and before this winter he spent a couple days a week in the gym prac- ticing. The hard work paid off, and now Matt and his other teammates are motivated to prepare for next season with the goal of qualifying for the state tournament.

Flathead Community Foundation and United Way Team Up for Give Local Flathead May 5, 2015
Fiesta of Philanthropy Aims to Raise $100,000 in a Single Day
On May 5, 2015, from 12:00:00 am to 11:59:59 pm, the Flathead Community Foun- dation (FCF) and Northwest United Way will co-host “Give Local Flathead – A Fiesta for Philanthropy” as part of Give Local America, a national event with local impact.
The 24-hour online giving day was created in 2014 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of local community foundations, by helping raise critical funds and increasing awareness for nonprofit organizations across the country. Last year, Give Local America resulted in do- nations of $53.7 million to local communities, in just one day. This year Give Local America
hopes to help raise $100 million for thousands of community causes nationwide.
FCF is partnering with the United Way and local sponsors to connect
donors with organizations
that are enhancing quality of
life and addressing essential
needs here in our own back-
yard. Give Local Flathead’s
inaugural goal is to raise
$100,000 in online donations.
Current sponsors are Women
Who Wine of Kalispell, 406
Woman Magazine, West One Bank, and the Montana Community Foundation.
First to step up with incentive prize dol- lars and volunteer power were the Women Who Wine of Kalispell (WWWK), a women’s giving circle with more than 150 members. In addi-
tion to helping promote the event to nonprofit participants and sponsors, WWWK is coordinat- ing festivities with Northwest Montana United
Way for the Fiesta of Philanthropy, which will be held from 8am-Mid- night at the Hampton Inn, Kalispell. Fiesta-goers will enjoy assistance with online donations, information about Give Local Flathead’s benefiting non- profits, live music, refreshments, and frequent Carmen Miranda sightings a la WWWK style. Donors at the Fiesta will be entered into drawings for an array of
thank you gift baskets.
“Give Local Flathead is an opportunity
for everyone in our community to give where we live,” said Lucy Smith, Executive Director of Flathead Community Foundation. “Our nonprofit organizations are there for us 24/7,
365 days a week. On May 5th, we have 24 hours to celebrate and thank them in a big way.”
The Community Foundation and United Way are encouraging everyone to be Flathead Philanthropists on May 5th. “Many people think it takes considerable wealth to have an impact, but even the smallest donation can make a big difference,” said United Way Exec- utive Director, Sherry Stevens . “Every dollar really does count when it goes to a community need.”
