At rst glance you may assume the child is withdrawn su ering from a hopeless diagnosis of severe autism or you could see a spark in their eye with a smile on their face and say how awesome is this child who is so capable of managing and controlling the world around them. You could respond by getting in their face and endeavor to teach endless repetition through ABA therapies or you could choose to do something very bold and unusual by joining with them building a bridge into their world and discover how amazing they are at reg- ulating and taking care of themselves with their exclusive behaviors. This is the Sonrise approach; bonding through acceptance to develop a deep rapport of trust, comfort, love and enjoyment with an autistic child. Once you are connected there is endless potential for inspiring growth through curiosity and fun-loving make believe where miracles happen!
We are currently recruiting Sonrise volunteers for our summer in-home Son-Rise program for Cole. We are inviting open-minded, fun-loving volunteers who are willing to commit to 4-6 hours per week to play with Cole in the playroom. No experience is neces- sary. The Sonrise approach involves a non-judgmental attitude with an intense e ort to engage and motivate Cole to reach his full potential. We will provide training and ongoing feedback that will stretch your brain. Unfortunately we have become so good at being unhappy how great would it be if we learn happiness is a choice and through the Sonrise option process of dialogue you can learn to understand and take control of your happiness. In the playroom we will be developing language with Cole by not just teaching words but teaching a love of commu- nication.
You maybe asking what is this playroom; The playroom is a room that provides a safe and predictable environment where all distractions are removed to provide the most opportunities to learn and grow.
