Greg Gianforte, left, and Florida Gov. Rick Scott visit Nomad Global Communication Solutions in Kalispell on May 18. The two Republicans toured Nomad last week, highlighting the local company’s entrepreneurial spirit.
SCOTT VISIT
“It’s exciting that you can have a company like this built anywhere in the world. If Montana has the right talent pool, which
is really tied to your education system, and keeps your taxes low, you can have any company you want,” Scott said, adding, “There’s no reason that Montana can’t grow faster than any state, including Florida.” Gianforte said the state should do more to help companies like Nomad by “peeling back regulations.” “Jobs are only created in the private sector. They’re not created by government programs,” he said. GREG LINDSTROM | FLATHEAD BEACON

Flathead Legislators to Attend National
GOP Convention
State Republican lawmakers and U.S. Rep. Zinke tapped to attend party’s Cleveland convention in July
BY TRISTAN SCOTT OF THE BEACON
A trio of Republican state legislators
from Northwest Montana and the Flat- head Valley was selected to attend the party’s national convention this year in Cleveland.
State Sens. Jennifer Fielder of Thomp- son Falls and Dee Brown of Hungry Horse, along with Rep. Mark Noland of Bigfork, are among Montana’s 27-mem- ber delegation heading to the Republican National Convention in July.
Montana’s lone U.S. House Rep. Ryan Zinke, of White sh, was also selected as a delegate, while his wife, Lola, was cho- sen as one of the 24 alternate delegates.
At the Montana State Delegate Con- vention in Billings on May 14, several hundred state Republicans convened to select the party’s representatives to the
national convention, which will host a total of 2,470 delegates. The state GOP also selected 24 alternate delegates.
Other Montana delegates selected Sat- urday include Edward Butcher, Harrison Fagg, Dan Happel, Mike Hopkins, Debra Lamm, Paul Landsgaard, Bradley Lotton, Forrest Mandeville, Theresa Manzella, Anita Milanovich, John Milanovich, Peggy Miller, Suzzann Nordwick, Eric Olsen, Karen Marie Pfaehler, Art Wit- tich and Thomas Tuck.
The remaining three delegates are state GOP Chairman Je Essmann, Na- tional Committeeman Errol Galt and National Committeewoman Betti Hill.
The winner of Montana’s Republican primary receives all 27 delegates through the rst vote of the national convention, after which the delegates can vote for
any candidate they wish in the event that more than one vote is needed to select a presidential candidate.
Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump’s campaign was on hand at the delegate convention to persuade Trump supporters to apply for delegate consideration.
Will Deschamps, state campaign direc- tor for Ted Cruz, encouraged Cruz sup- porters to stay involved in the political process and vote for Trump instead, on the heels of Cruz suspending his campaign.
Zinke was among the delegates elected who were endorsed by the Trump cam- paign. At the convention, the White- sh lawmaker told fellow Republicans that the party needed to support the candidate.
