5) Treat the whole person. We each have a unique physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, so- cial, sexual and spiritual makeup. All these factors must be included in a carefully tailored treatment strategy.
6) Prevent illness. “An once of prevention is worth a pound of cure” Proactive, preventive medicine saves money, pain, misery and lives.
During the rst visit with a pa- tient I typically spend an hour and a half taking a thorough history that includes not only your symptoms but also your general health, diet, exercise, lifestyle, stresses and other factors that make you a unique individual. A visit may include laboratory tests and ex- ams similar to those done by medical doctors. I may also perform tests and exams that are unique to naturopathic medicine or acupuncture. I focus on prevention and education as well as diagnosis and treatment to address my patient’s symptoms and the underlying imbalances.
Together with the patient, I de- velop an individualized treatment plan that can range from nutrition and life- style education to nutritional supple- ments, herbal medicine, acupuncture, bio-identical hormones and homeopa- thy.
I also use soft-tissue manipula- tion techniques such as Cranial- Sacral erapy and Visceral Manipulation to release restrictions in the connective tissue that cause pain and impaired function. ese techniques can be especially helpful with pain resulting from injuries and surgical scar tissue as well as for urinary incontinence and gallbladder problems.
