FJalling Into The Vortex
JUNE 25, 2014 | 19
oe Hauser, owner of the House of Mystery and the Montana Vortex, came
upon the roadside oddity like most people; he was simply driv- ing by. Located on the aptly named Vortex Drive in Columbia Heights, the Montana Vortex and House of Mystery has been “cleverly disguised as a road side attraction for 44 years,” Hauser said.
Hauser said the site includes three vortexes, or pools of energy, that were discovered in 1970. The most notable feature on the site is its namesake House of Mystery that was built four decades ago at a 17-degree angle to accentuate the power of the vortex. Inside you can hang sideways off ladders and lean off the side of the wall.
Tour guides also demonstrate the mysterious powers of the vor- tex. Visitors can stand on level sur- faces and can shrink or grow in oth- ers’ eyes if they simply move a few steps. While many people would question the reality of the demon- strations, Hauser insists that the effects are real and even invites people to use levels to check the sur- faces to ensure that they are indeed flat. Hauser said he has even worked with scientists to conduct experi-
ments in the vortex.
Hauser made his first visit to the
vortex 10 years ago and was so con- vinced that it was real that when it
went up for sale soon after he pur- chased it. It seems Hauser fell into the vortex harder than most.
