SPRING STORM ONE FOR THE HISTORY BOOKS
RAINFALL SWEPT ACROSS NORTHWEST MONTANA IN A REMARKABLE THREE-DAY SPAN
By DILLON TABISH of the Beacon
Last week’s rainstorm that poured over the region came and went in fickle fashion, typical for Big Sky Country. But this recent three-day spat was out of the ordinary, even for a place with capricious weather patterns. The history books have a few new entries. June 17 was the wettest day in Kalispell since 1956, when Dwight D. Eisenhower was president and the Hungry Horse Dam was barely three years old. The three-day
stretch between June 17 and June 19 saw the second most rain in a 72-hour period in Kalispell’s history. It was the most pre- cipitation since June 27-29, 1982, when the wettest day ever occurred on June 29, with 2.71 inches falling in a 24-hour pe- riod.
“Overall, this looks to be one of the heaviest precipita- tion events for northwest Montana in quite some time and very well could be the big event for the summer,” the National Weather Service said in its weather advisory.
