The popular Highline Trail at Logan Pass in Glacier National Park opened late last week along with the Ptarmigan Tunnel, which was also cleared. However, portions of both trails remain covered in ice and snow, and park officials urged visitors to watch their footing and come pre- pared to hike in snowy conditions.
On the Highline Trail, snow re- mains past Haystack Butte. Strong hiking skills and snow travel skills, as well as the appropriate equipment, are recommended.
The Ptarmigan Tunnel is open, but stock access to Iceberg Lake and Ptarmigan Trail is prohibited. A tem- porary bridge can accommodate foot traffic but is not suitable for stock.
Visitors to Logan Pass are encour- aged to bring their own water or re- fillable water bottle this week while temporary water tanks are being in- stalled. It is anticipated that a tempo- rary system will be operating by the weekend. During this week, the park will provide a number of large water bottles for visitors to fill their personal water bottles. The public restroom fa- cilities at Logan Pass are operational.
