EXPLORE GLACIER NATIONAL PARK
BY JUSTIN FRANZ
DESPITE A FIRE BURNING ON the east side of Glacier National Park, there is still plenty to explore in the Crown Jewel of the Continent.
Because of the Reynolds Creek Fire, much of the area around St. Mary has been closed to visitors, but on July 27 the visitor center there was reopened. The St. Mary Campground is expected to reopen on July 29 and the west side of the Going-to-the-Sun Road was expected to be open all the way to Logan Pass this week. The Rising Sun Campground, Ris- ing Sun Motor Inn and the Going-to-the- Sun Road from Logan Pass to St. Mary are expected to remain closed until the threat of fire subsides.
The fire has had little impact on the west side of the park, as well as the Two Medicine and Many Glacier valleys on the east side. In fact, the fire is a perfect opportunity to explore some of the lesser known corners of the park, including the North Fork of the Flathead River Valley and Polebridge.
