Dogs Seized From Kennel Following Reports of Neglect
A St. Ignatius couple could be facing charges of animal abuse after the Lake County Sheri ’s O ce received reports of dozens of dogs being held in unsanitary conditions.
Earlier this month, the sheri ’s o ce received a report from someone request- ing a welfare check on the dogs at LDR Kennel on Dublin Gulch Road. Accord- ing to the reporting party, there was a terrible smell coming from the kennels and at least one dog had its hair matted and smelled like urine. The reporting party noted that the dog looked to be in poor health.
Upon further investigation, the sher- i ’s o ce found that there had been mul- tiple complaints about the kennel, owned by Larry and Nadene Latzke, but in the past the owners never let o cers inspect the property.
According to LDR’s website, the cou- ple have been raising “quality puppies” for more than 25 years.
“We raise our puppies in the most lov- ing, humane, clean environment possi- ble,” the website states. “They are de - nitely loved and socialized.”
The sheri ’s o ce applied for a search warrant and served it on the morning of July 26. Upon arrival, the deputies found more than 120 dogs at the kennel. Eleven of the animals were removed from the kennel for medical treatment and the owners were cited with animal cruelty.
Sheri Don Bell said the case has been handed o to the Lake County Attor- ney’s O ce who will determine if formal charges will be led.
