1. Sheri Identi es Man Killed in
Head-on Collision
The Flathead County Sheri ’s O ce has identi ed the victim in last week’s head-on collision near Creston.
Thomas Arnett, 83, of Bigfork, was driving a red Jeep Wrangler east when it drifted into the opposing lane and col- lided with a Dodge pickup truck travel- ing west. Arnett was pronounced dead at the scene. Arnett was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The driver of the pickup truck had minor injuries.
The Montana Highway Patrol is inves- tigating the collision.
Tra c was detoured around the wreck Monday afternoon and drivers in the area experienced delays of 15 to 30 minutes.
Arnett’s death was the 99th on Mon- tana’s roadways in 2016, compared to 104 fatalities at the same time last year.

2. Man Fined for Posting Video of Truck Chasing Grizzly
A Montana ranch hand has been ned after posting a video of a grizzly bear being chased by a truck on social media.
The Helena Independent Record reports that Lawrence Kennedy of Browning was ned $400 with a $25 pro- cessing fee after reaching a plea agree- ment with federal prosecutors.
Kennedy initially pleaded not guilty to violating the Endangered Species Act but entered the new plea agreement July 5. He is charged with unlawfully harassing a threatened species.
Federal o cials investigated Ken- nedy after he posted a video to Facebook in March showing him driving a pickup truck as a bear ran across a Brown- ing-area ranch.
Kennedy told the Independent Record in March that he was chasing the bear to keep it away from a herd of cows that were calving.
3. Authorities ID Paddle Boarder
Who Drowned in Flathead Lake
The Lake County Sheri ’s O ce has identi ed the St. Regis man who drowned in Flathead Lake last week as 51-year-old Ty Kanara.
Kanara was reportedly paddle board- ing with his family on July 26 when he fell into the water at around 6 p.m.
Kanara did not come back to the sur- face and his family began to scream. A nearby boater came to the family’s aid and dove into the lake to bring Kanara back up. The boater then took Kanara to shore and started CPR but was unable to revive him.
Kanara was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.
The man’s body has been taken to the Montana State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

4. Montana Health Insurance
Companies Seek Rate Hikes
Insurers say they’re losing money on the Montana marketplace thanks to ris- ing health care costs. The three compa- nies using the market place are seeking 2017 rate increases of up to 62 percent.
The insurers say they aren’t making enough in premiums to cover the cost of claims. The companies made their case for rate hikes during a public hearing last week.
The state’s smallest marketplace insurer, Paci cSource, says it won’t o er a pair of individual health plans next year after it averaged a loss of $1,100 per insured member last year. Paci c- Source also plans to limit sales of one of its policies to Billings- and Missoula-area counties.
Blue Cross Blue Shield and Montana Health Co-op also complained about their nancial prospects.
