CARROLL PICKED TO WIN FRONTIER CONFERENCE AGAIN
The defending Frontier Conference champions at Carroll College are the preseason favorites to repeat this year.
A poll of league coaches showed the Fighting Saints are favored to defend their title. Rocky Mountain was picked second, followed by Southern Oregon, Eastern Oregon, Montana Tech, MSU- Northern, Montana Western and Col- lege of Idaho.
Carroll also enters the season ranked second nationally in the NAIA Football Coaches Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Rocky Mountain was tabbed ninth.
Carroll went 12-2 overall, 9-1 in con- ference last season and fell in the semifi- nals of the playoffs to eventual national runner-up Cumberlands (Kentucky), 12-2.
The Saints are searching for a new starting quarterback, but other posi- tions boast strong returning players. All-American Dustin Rinker is back as the team’s leading rusher. He tallied 1,960 yards and 17 touchdowns a year ago. Also, All-American linebacker Sean Blomquist returns after logging 124 tackles a year ago.
Whitefish’s Mac Roche is vying for the starting QB spot and performed well in the spring. Head coach Mike Van Di- est has said Roche has an advantage en- tering fall camps to take over the start- ing role.
