WHITEFISH BOYS, COLUMBIA FALLS GIRLS CLINCH SOCCER CONFERENCE TITLES
The Whitefish Bulldogs are kings of the Northern A conference once again. The Bulldog soccer team defeated Co- lumbia Falls 4-1 last week to claim the No. 1 spot in the standings in the regu- lar-season finale.
Whitefish (7-3-2 overall, 5-1-2 in con- ference) will host a first-round playoff game on Saturday, Oct. 18 against Ham- ilton (5-6-1, 3-4-1), the No. 3 team from Southern A. The match will be played at Smith Fields at 2 p.m.
Bigfork (6-4-1, 5-2-1) finished second in the conference standings and will play on the road against the winner of Bill- ings Central (8-1-3, 3-1-2) and Livings- ton (3-6-3, 1-3-2). Those teams played Oct. 14 after the Beacon went to print.
Libby (6-6, 5-3) qualified for the state tournament as the third-place team from Northern A and will hit the road and take on the top team from Southern A, Corvallis (11-1, 8-0).
Belgrade (11-1, 5-1) plays Stevensville (8-3-1, 6-2) in other first-round action. The victor hosts the winner of Whitefish and Hamilton in the semifinals.
On the girls side, Columbia Falls won its third conference title in four years and earned a No. 1 seed in the state tour- nament.
The Wildkats (7-1-4, 6-0-2) host Ste- vensville (3-7-2, 3-4-1) this weekend.
Polson (7-4-1, 4-3-1) finished second in the conference and plays the winner of Laurel (8-2-2, 2-2-2) and Belgrade (5- 6-1, 2-4-0). The Lady Pirates play on the road.
Whitefish (5-5-2, 4-3-1) also quali- fied for the state tournament with the No. 3 seed from the North. The Lady Bulldogs travel to Hamilton (10-2-0, 8-0-0) this weekend.
Billings Central (10-0-2, 5-0-1) hosts Corvallis (6-6-0, 5-4-0) in other first- round action. Billings Central has won six consecutive state championships.
Bigfork 49, Plains 0
Josh Sandry scored three touch- downs, Vinny Quirk powered in a pair of TDs and the Vikings rolled past Plains in a District 7B game.
The 10th-ranked Vikings had six dif- ferent players score, including Sandry, who ran 45 yards for the game’s first touchdown and then connected with Jon Landon for the second TD. Sandry returned a punt 34 yards for his third score. Tyler Pizzola scored a safety and Kyler Oster caught a 10-yard TD pass from Landon.
Bigfork (5-1 overall, 2-0 in Western 7B) travels to Eureka (2-5, 1-1) on Friday.
Columbia Falls 41, Frenchtown 0
Ty Morgan caught 11 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns, Dakota Bridwell was 22 of 31 for 256 yards and two TDs and the Wildcats returned to the field with a big win at home.
After taking a bye week, Columbia Falls piled up 398 yards of offense while limiting conference foe Frenchtown to 161 yards. Stephen Lindsay scored a 9-yard run in the first quarter, Ike Sch- weikert added another TD in the second and then Morgan went on a three-score tear. Connor Bowman wrapped up the shutout with a 7-yard TD run.
Columbia Falls (5-1 overall, 1-1 in Northwestern A) hosts Libby (2-5, 0-2) at 7 p.m. on Friday. Polson defeated Lib- by 48-14 last week. The Pirates (3-4, 1-2) travel to Havre (2-5, 1-2 in Central A) on Friday.
Whitefish 52, Livingston 15
Luke May passed for 193 yards and three touchdowns, Jed Nagler had five catches for 92 yards and two TDs and the Bulldogs rolled past Livingston in a nonconferencefootballgame.
Chris Park scored three touchdowns for Whitefish, including a fumble return for a TD. Brian FauntLeRoy scored a 19- yard run and Haley Nicholson kicked a 23-yard field goal in the fourth quarter and converted seven extra points.
Whitefish (5-2, 2-0 in Northwestern A) travels to Frenchtown (3-4, 2-1) on Friday.
Bozeman 43, Flathead 21
The Hawks offense hit stride and the Braves struggled to keep up.
Bozeman piled up 491 yards of of- fense.
Flathead’s Josh McCracken rushed 17 times for 96 yards and two touch- downs. Alex Croymans caught a 78-yard TD pass from Easton Johnson for the Braves’ other score. Johnson finished 9 of 22 for 165 yards and three intercep- tions. Keaton Krantz had three catches for 52 yards.
Flathead (2-5) hosts Missoula Hell- gate (0-7) at 7 p.m. on Friday.

The top-ranked team in Class AA made it look easy once again. The Wolf- pack swarmed Sentinel with six differ- ent scorers and 475 yards of offense en route to its seventh win of the season.
Thomas Trefney scored three touch- downs, Logan Jones added a pair of TDs and quarterback Brady McChesney was 16 of 22 for 260 yards and three scores.
Devin Cochran, Sam McCamley and Patrick O’Connell each added touch- downs as the Wolfpack improved to 7-0. The Glacier defense limited Sentinel to 197 yards and eight first downs and in- tercepted four passes.
Glacier travels to Helena to play Cap- ital (1-6) on Friday.
