COLUMBIA FALLS STUNS 6-TIME DEFENDING SOCCER CHAMPS
The Wildkats pulled off an unforget- table upset on the other side of the state. Lindsay Strouse scored her third goal
in overtime to lead Columbia Falls past six-time defending state champion Bill- ings Central 3-2 in the semifinal round of the Class A soccer playoffs on Oct. 25.
Strouse scored her second goal with six minutes left in regulation to tie the match at 2-all, with an assist from El- lie Johnson. Then in overtime, Strouse scored unassisted and the Wildkats be- came the first team to beat the Rams since 2011. The victory ended Billings Central’s 54-match unbeaten streak. Wildkats’ goalkeeper Alyson Bimbel made five saves.
Columbia Falls rolled into the Class A state soccer championship match, which will be at 11 a.m. at the Columbia Falls high school field this Saturday. The Wildkats will host Laurel, the No. 2 seed from the East. Laurel defeated Whitefish 3-0 in the semifinal round last weekend.
In the Class A boys playoff series, Belgrade eliminated Whitefish 3-0 in the semifinal round. Corvallis defeated Bigfork 3-1 in the other semifinal match.
FLATHEAD, GLACIER SOCCER SQUADS PULL OFF THRILLING PLAYOFF VICTORIES
All four local Class AA teams ad- vanced to the state soccer tournaments in Great Falls, Oct. 30-Nov. 1. Here’s a breakdown of the playoff matches that vaulted the teams to the tournaments.
Flathead 4, Helena 2
The Flathead boys pulled off the big- gest upset of the day when they defeated No. 2 seed Helena in a shootout in a Class AA playoff soccer match in Helena on Oct. 23.
The seventh-seeded Braves (3-10) tied Helena (6-4-3) in regulation 2-2.
The Braves advanced to the Class AA state soccer tournament in Great Falls this week. Flathead plays Bozeman (9-1- 2) at 2:30 p.m., Thursday.
GIRLS
Glacier 4, Missoula Big Sky 3
The Wolfpack notched four goals in
the first half and held off the Eagles in last week’s playoff match to advance to the Class AA state soccer tournament.
The Wolfpack play Billings Senior (7- 2-3) at 2:30 p.m., Thursday at the state tournament in Great Falls.
Flathead 4, Helena Capital 0
Stephanie Wilson scored a pair of goals and the fourth-seeded Bravettes cruised to victory over the fifth-seeded Lady Bruins in Kalispell en route to the Class AA state soccer tournament.
Zoe and Zina Loudermilk each added
scores in the first half for Flathead (5-5-
3).
Flathead will play Bozeman (10-1-1)
at noon, Thursday in Great Falls.
Glacier 3, Missoula Big Sky 2 (OT)
Carly McDonald scored her sec- ond goal in the 85th minute to vault the Wolfpack to the state tournament.
Glacier (5-4-4) will play Great Falls C.M. Russell (9-1-2) at noon, Thursday.

Bigfork 48, Thompson Falls 0
The fifth-ranked Vikings claimed their sixth straight District 7B title after a dominating victory at home to wrap up the regular season.
Vinny Quirk scored two touch- downs, Josh Sandry rushed in a score and passed for another and Isaac Martel added another pair of TDs for Bigfork. Logan Mejak also returned an intercep- tion for a score.
Bigfork (7-1 overall, 4-0 in confer- ence) hosts Deer Lodge (7-2, 3-1 in Dis- trict 6B) at 1 p.m., Saturday in the open- ing round of the Class B playoffs.
Eureka (3-6, 2-2) travels to Glasgow for the opening round.
Whitefish 45, Libby 0
The Bulldogs capped their perfect conference schedule with a big victory and added momentum into the Class A playoffs.
Quarterback Luke May combined for four touchdowns, Haley Nicholson was six-for-six in extra point attempts and added a 32-yard field goal and the Bulldogs defense held the Loggers to 49 yards rushing and 76 yards passing.
Whitefish (7-2 overall, 4-0 in North- western A) has a first-round bye in the playoffs, which kick off this weekend. The Bulldogs will host the winner of Miles City and Havre the following weekend.
Columbia Falls 43, Polson 6
Ike Schweikert scored a pair of touchdowns and quarterback Dakota Bridwell passed for another pair as the Wildcats wrapped up the regular season with a big win.
The Wildcats (7-2, 4-0) host Hamil- ton (6-3, 3-2) at 2 p.m., Saturday in the first round of the Class A playoffs.
Glacier 58, Great Falls 0
Thomas Trefney scored three touch- downs, Logan Jones added another two and the top-ranked Wolfpack improved to 9-0 with its most dominating win of the season.
Glacier plays Flathead (3-6) this Fri- day at 7 p.m. inside Legends Stadium to wrap up the regular season. The Wolf- pack will try to cap the team’s first unde- feated season and secure the top seed in the Class AA playoffs. Missoula Sentinel defeated Flathead 28-14 last Friday.
