THE MARQUEE
WHAT TO READ, SEE AND APPRECIATE
REVISITING ‘THROUGH GLACIER PARK’ A CENTURY LATER
On Dec. 16, local author and Hungry Horse News editor Chris Peterson will give a community presentation on Mary Roberts Rinehart’s book, “Through Gla- cier Park in 1915.”
Rinehart’s classic is a trav- elogue of her 300-mile journey through Glacier Park, during which she traveled on horseback through the park with a party of 40 people, including famed art- ist Charlie Russell.
A century later, in 2015,
Peterson recreated Rinehart’s journey and her photographs, hiking 240 miles between April and September, meeting snow, rain, wind, heat, bears, and wild res.
Hosted by the Glacier National Park Conservancy, Peterson’s free presentation will feature stories from his travels, and autographed cop- ies of his book will be available for purchase, proceeds bene ting the conservancy.
The event takes place at Flathead Valley Community College’s Art and Technology building at 7 p.m.

“Life throws challenges at all of us,” DeVine wrote about the song in an email. “When this happens, our tendency is to hold on for dear life. We think by hold- ing tighter, we’ll be able to better control the outcome. But as life soon teaches us, we can’t control what happens to us. So the best course of action is to instead let go. Within the song ‘Anything Can Happen,’ the lyrics continue, ‘if you let it.’ The song drives home the need for us all to ... start believing that the universe is working toward our greatest good, no matter how arduous or unfair our cur- rent circumstances seem. In the script, the members of the Banks family each struggle with this concept in di erent
ways. Mary Poppins and Bert slowly succeed in helping them to let go, and by so doing, all that is good in their lives begin to ourish and grow.”
And as the song concludes, Mary Pop- pins takes ight one last time to be car- ried by the West Winds into the lives of the next family in need, con dent that she’s leaving behind a loving family with a regained sense of priority.
Shows are at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 11-12 and 18-19; and at 4 p.m. on Dec. 13 and 20. All seats are reserved. Tickets are $22 for adults, $20 for seniors, and $8 for stu- dents. Buy tickets online at white shthe- atreco.org or by calling (406) 862-5371.
