Slopeside Gift Ideas and Guide for the Holidays
Riley Polumbus
It’s that time of year when holiday cheer raises our spirits as well as our heart rate as we rush around trying to find the perfect gifts for our loved ones while also
team of consultants who know the inner-workings of our mountain and here’s the advice they offer you to make the most of the holiday week on the mountain:
1. Arrive early. Get up and get going early. The slopes are quiet for the first couple hours so you’ll have more fresh tracks and less time in line.
2. Eat breakfast on the mountain. This takes some of the pain out of arriving early! Remember Season Pass Holders receive 10% off food so you can pick up a pre-made grab-and-go breakfast from the Base Lodge Coffee Bar or head all the way up top and have a made-to-order breakfast at the Summit House.
3. Take the SNOW Bus. Whether you get there early or arrive late, you’ll get dropped off next to the slopes good to go.
4. Eat lunch early or late. Once again, beat the rush and eat off peak. Kind of like off piste but with food instead of powder.
5. Eat on the lift. Pick up a grab-and-go sandwich from the Base Lodge Coffee Bar. Enjoy lunch with a view by eating on the lift!
6. Go off the beaten path. Go the “scenic route” from the Base Lodge by taking Bad Rock to Chair 4 to Chair 5. Or ven- ture over to the Chair 2 and Chair 3 area. Take Expressway instead of Russ’s Street and then go to Bad Rock or Chair 6.
7. Get the most of Flower Point. Head to the Bigfoot T-bar first then head down Big Creek to the Flower Point lift.
Season’s Greetings to you and yours! See you on the slopes.
making time to enjoy our mountain and town. I’m here to tell you that you can enjoy the mountain while getting some shopping done so you’ll have more time for decking the halls.
For the skier or rider who plans to ski a lot, our Frequent Skier Card is a must! They are $50 and the holder of the card can pur- chase adult day tickets for just $46. These cards are only available through December 24th so it’s perfect timing for the last min- ute gift.
A perfect stocking stuffer is the White- fish Mountain Resort Gift Card. Cards can be loaded in any amount, and they are good at all retail and rental shops and restaurants owned by Whitefish Moun- tain Resort. Plus there’s no expiration date and the cards can be reloaded. They are available at Guest Services on the second floor of the Base Lodge or by calling 862-2900.
Give the gift that keeps on giving with a lesson! We still have some room in all of our Adult Programs, which run eight weeks and are designed for any level. Choose from a Ladies’ or Men’s Half Day or Full Day program on Wednesdays. It’s a great gift for someone looking to get to the next level in their skiing or riding and also a great way to meet new ski companions at their level. Anyone receiving this gift that keeps on giving must register by December 31st.
Santa will hit the slopes December 24th! Parents please note: bring a gift for Santa and his Whitefish Elf to give their child. Drop off gifts to either the Base Lodge Information Center or Lodging Check-In (Kintla Lodge in Upper Village) by 4pm on 12/24. Please write clearly, legibly and in large print. Please include the name, age, and hometown on the package.
If you are shopping for someone who loves the mountain, why not give them a unique gift to commemorate one of our new additions this year? How about a Whitefish Mountain Resort coffee mug in honor of the new Base Lodge Coffee Bar, or how about a mini version of our new Piston Bully groomer? Or for the most fanatic, get them a working model of a chairlift in rec- ognition of the new Flower Point chairlift! Pick one up at Snow Ghost Outfitters in the Upper Village.
Snow Ghost also is the place to find new threads to wear on and off the mountain. SmartWool socks and base layers, top layers by Flylow, Marmot, Oakley, Under Armor, Descente and Spyder.
