FVCC SENIOR INSTITUTE REGISTRATION OPENS
Registration for Flathead Valley Community College’s 21st annual Senior Institute began Feb. 3.
The program provides area seniors ages 65 years of age and older opportuni- ties to enroll in classes designed just for them. The six-week program promotes lifelong opportunities and enables se- niors to learn new information, develop new and enhance existing skills, recon- nect with old friends and make new ones and stay active during the winter months.
This spring, seniors have the oppor- tunity to enroll in one of the program’s 16 courses that range from musical the- atre, bone health and birds of Northwest Montana to ceramics, social media and the Civil War. The cost to enroll varies with each class.
The program will meet every Fri- day beginning Feb. 20 and concluding March 27. Students are treated to a com- plimentary lunch buffet each Friday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Classes will follow lunch from 1 to 2:50 p.m.
Classes will fill on a first-come, first- served basis. Course registration can be completed in the FVCC Registration Office in Blake Hall on the college’s Ka- lispell campus, by mail-in registration form or by faxing the registration form to 756-3965. For students who have nev- er enrolled in a credit course at FVCC, a Non-degree Application for Admission is required in addition to the Senior In- stitute Registration Form.
Registration forms with complete course descriptions and enrollment fees can be obtained by calling 756-3813 or by visiting www.fvcc.edu/seniorinsti- tute.
WHITEFISH WINTER CARNIVAL LVI EVENTS FEB. 6-8
This week presents the 56th An- nual Whitefish Winter Carnival featur- ing the theme “America the Beautiful – Honoring Veterans,” offering locals and visitors unique ways to celebrate winter with quirky Whitefish traditions.
National Geographic named the Whitefish Winter Carnival one of the “Top 10 Winter Carnivals in the World” in 2012.
“The community response to the theme honoring Veterans has been truly exciting. It’s a great thrill for the carnival board to feature our men and women of the military this year,” stated Whitefish Winter Carnival Chair Paul Johannsen.
Winter Carnival events kicked off in early January with the Merry Maker event, where the Prime Minister Luke
Walrath and Duchess of Lark Linda Ray were introduced to King Ullr LVI. King Ullr LVI Lin Akey and Queen of Snows Anita Welch were coronated on Satur- day, Jan. 17.
The Feb. 6 – 8 weekend festivities kick off with the Winter Carnival Gala at the Whitefish Lake Restaurant on Fri- day night. Saturday features the Penguin Plunge, when a hole is cut into White- fish Lake and participants take a dip to raise funds for Montana Special Olym- pics. That afternoon will feature an old- fashioned Main Street parade, pie social, x-country ski race, hockey tournament, figure skating demonstration and more.
The Grand Parade on Saturday, Feb. 7 will feature nearly 25 veterans as Grand Marshals representing the Navy, Marine Corp, Army, Air Force and Coast Guard and every conflict from World War II to Desert Storm. Other Grand Marshals will include representatives of the Montana National Guard and local VFW posts.
The Grand Marshals will follow the Whitefish Winter Carnival float and royalty in the parade riding in red, white andbluevehicles.
Sunday culminates with the Rotary Pancake Breakfast.
The festivities are open to the pub- lic and most are free of charge although Winter Carnival buttons are encour- aged.

FOUR‘LEGENDS’INDUCTED INTO STADIUM WALL OF FAME
Four new “legends” were inducted into the Wall of Fame during halftime of last week’s crosstown basketball game between Glacier and Flathead.
Gary Moen, Dick Wilson, Cheri Bratt-Roberts and Jim Sweeney are the latest community members to be added to the Legends Stadium Wall of Fame.
To date, 26 people, including this year’s inductees, have been inducted into the Legends Wall of Fame.
The Legends Stadium Selection Committee met on Nov. 4, 2014 and re- viewed nine nominations for the Leg- ends Wall of Fame Class of 2014.
Inductees were chosen based on community service; excellence in lead- ership, academics and teaching in Ka- lispell Public Schools; outstanding ath- letic accomplishments in Kalispell com- munity; and accomplishments at Leg- ends Stadium.
