SEARCH CREWS RESCUE TEENAGER TRAPPED NEAR LION MOUNTAIN
Search crews rescued a 16-year-old girl who was lost near Lion Mountain and trapped under a fallen tree, according to authorities.
The girl was hiking with her grandfather in the Lion Mountain area near Whitefish on March 11 when the pair became separated around 5 p.m. The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office responded along with the North Valley and Flathead Search and Rescue units. Two Bear Air, a highly equipped helicopter funded by philanthropist Mike Goguen, also responded and located the girl using on-board infrared technology, according to Sheriff Chuck Curry.
The girl was found off trail trapped under a tree that had fallen across her body, Curry said. A rescuer was lowered from the helicopter and provided care until the ground units could arrive. The girl was stabilized and transported by search crews and emergency medical personnel to North Valley Hospital.
Following the rescue, Curry expressed gratitude for Two Bear Air, thanking Goguen for providing the life-saving resources at no cost. Curry also thanked the search crews who successfully rescued the girl.
GOLF SEASON ARRIVES EARLY FOR SOME AREA COURSES

TURNER MOUNTAIN SKI AREA CALLS IT A SEASON
Hampered by the lowest snowpack in Western Montana, Turner Mountain Ski Area will remain closed for the rest of the season.
The ski area near Libby announced the full closure on March 6, saying on its website, “You win Mother Nature. See you next season!”
The mountain, which features a single lift and is operated by volunteers, has struggled with snow all winter. It opened late and closed in early February due to meager snowfall and unseasonablywarmweather.
Snowpack in the Kootenai River Basin is at 54 percent of normal, according to the National Resources Conservation Service.
ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE TO REVIEW FATAL LIBBY SHOOTING
More than two months after a Kalispell man was shot and killed in Libby, the Lincoln County Attorney’s Office is sending the case to the Montana AttorneyGeneralforreview.
Michael Leonard Roloff, 31, was killed on Dec. 26, 2014 while visiting family in Libby. No charges have been filed against the alleged shooter, his mother-in-law, Lois Kay Olbekson, and law enforcement officials in Libby have revealed little information about the incident.
According to Sheriff Roby Bowe, Olbekson called police at 10:17 p.m. on Dec. 26 and said that she had just shot Roloff after he threatened her.
When deputies arrived at the scene on Glendora Avenue in Libby about three minutes later, they found Roloff unresponsive and lying in the driveway of the home. Deputies performed CPR on him. The Libby Volunteer Ambulance took him to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at about 11 p.m.
According to John Barnes, director of communications for the Montana Department of Justice, the state’s Prosecution Services Bureau annually reviews about 100 cases at the request of local prosecutors. Although Barnes could not get into specifics about the Roloff shooting, he said that there are a variety of reasons the state would review a case. Barnes added that each case is unique and it is hard to determine how long a review may take.
