EXPLORE BOWMAN LAKE AND CAMPGROUND

SUMMER IS WELL ON ITS WAY TO the Flathead, and one of the best places to view all the grandeur and glory that is Northwest Montana is Bowman Lake.
Situated in the North Fork area of Glacier National Park, Bowman Lake is cradled by a bowl of massive mountain peaks, making its mirror e ect all the more stupendous.
The lake and beach are already a major draw, but many hikers also like to use the Bowman Lake Campground as a basecamp for the many trails that are accessible there, and boating enthusiasts can be found explor- ing the lake on kayaks and canoes.
The campground o cially opened its 48 spaces last week to primitive status at $10 per night, meaning campers need to bring their own drinking water. RVs and trailers are not recommended at the campground because the road to there is long, narrow, winding, and dirt with only a few pull-o spaces.
Be sure to bring plenty of bug repellent measures, as mosquitos are some of Bow- man’s most faithful residents. If you forget, the nearby Polebridge Mercantile can prob- ably help you out.
To get there, take the North Fork Road out- side of the park north out of Columbia Falls until Polebridge. Use the Polebridge park entrance to get into Glacier Park, and follow signs to Bowman. Accessible via the Inner North Fork Road as well.
