FLATHEAD BEACON
Rhiannon Sturgess
SCHOOL:FLATHEAD CLASS:SENIOR
“I LIKE RUNNING WITH STUFF IN
my way,” Rhiannon says. It’s a max-
im among hurdlers and something
Flathead’s all-state senior discov-
ered at a young age. “When I was
little, I would run around the house
and have my mom time me,” she
says. “I would jump over garbage
cans and stuf.” By high school,
she was excelling mightily and fre-
quently winning the 100 and 300
races. She saved her best for last —
at the state meet, she set new per-
sonal records in both events, and
placed third in each. Looking back
on her prep career, track was “the
most important aspect” and taught
her many life lessons. She’s not
done with the sport yet, though, as
she prepares to move on to Carroll
College in Helena next year.
STATS THAT MATTER:
• Rhiannon placed third
in both hurdle events at
the Class AA state meet,
running 45.49 in the 300
and 14.94 in the 100
