WEEKEND OUTLOOK
WEEKLY ON-MOUNTAIN NEWS
If Marty McFly went back in time to 1985 riding a Flux Capacitor- equipped Kona Precept gravity bike other mountain bikers would have scoffed at the huge front fork and said it weighs way too much for climbing and descending mountains. They would have

year, IMBA recognizes outstanding mountain bike trails and locations with the IMBA Model Trail awards which encompass Epics, Ride Centers, Flow Trails and Commu- nity Bike Parks. Kashmir was one of four Flow Trails rec- ognized which included trails in Karnten, Austria, Sun Valley, ID and the Czech Republic.
While the good word has spread about our flow, we’ve also attained a reputation for being uncrowded and of- fering a great value. Our season passes are only $195 for adults and $110 for juniors age 7-12 and seniors age 65 and up ($175 and $99 for 2014/15 Winter Season Pass Holders through June 30th). It’s the best deal in the re- gion plus 2015 Bike Pass Holders receive 10 percent off dining and retail up here on the mountain.
Riders looking to come up for the day can buy a full day pass for $35 or a two hour pass for $25 (juniors and seniors are $25 for full day and $20 for two hours). Snow Ghost Outfitters has a fleet of Kona Precept 200s (minus the Flux Capacitor) available for rent in all sizes plus a few kids’ bikes. We also rent protective gear in the form of full-face helmets, arm and leg pads. Helmets are re- quired for all bikers and we rent cross-country helmets as well.
Riding our new downhill and freeride trails takes a lot of skill which is why we’ve set aside three days, June 27, July 25 and August 22, for three different clinics to help you develop the skills you need. June’s clinic “Intro to riding the Bike Park” will introduce beginner to in- termediate riders to the Bike Park. July is our Women’s Clinic designed specifically for female riders wanting to build their park skills. Finally the Freeride August clinic is designed for intermediate and advanced riders who want to take their skills to the next level. All three group clinics are only $45 for instruction and require a two- hour ticket for $22.

snacks in the form of huckleberries.
Since building our first Village to summit mountain
bike trail – The Summit Trail – in 1996 we’ve evolved into a destination bike park with a classic downhill trail, Run- away Train (built in 2008) and top-to-bottom freeride trails Kashmir and Freebird (completed in 2013), along with a handful of other trails at the end to add variety at the finish. Today there are 13 lift-accessed trails ranging from intermediate and advanced to expert.
We also offer eight lower mountain cross-country trails which collectively create a network of over seven miles’ worth of riding for all levels. It’s the kind of set up you could, (if you are the type of biker who owns more bikes than shoes) bring three or four bikes and spend a few days taking in nearly 30 miles of trail. (Most only come with one bike, or rent one from Snow Ghost Outfit- ters.)
Our downhill trails have received the most attention lately earning high-praise and accolades. Most notably Kashmir was named a “Model Flow Trail” by the Inter- national Mountain Biking Association (IMBA). Once a
looked at him as if he had two heads when he explained that, in the future, ski areas would build trails specifically designed for these bikes. When he’d use the term “flow” to explain the trails and how they are like roller coasters, well you know how the movie turned out. In the ‘80s, mountain biking was a budding sport. Fast-forward 30-some years and the sport of mountain biking has evolved tenfold morphing into multiple cat- egories including cross-country, downhill, freeride and Enduro. The Whitefish Bike Park can accommodate all riding styles above. As an added bonus, bikers are treat- ed to unparalleled views and, when in season, trailside

Box office sensation Back to the Future was the must see movie during the summer of 1985 and considered groundbreaking, changing the future of the adventure movie genre with its innovative special ef- fects and non-stop action. Thirty years later the White- fish Bike Park also offers non-stop action with natural and manmade features, rock gardens, drop parks, jump sections, deep berms and lots of flow that will make our park, like the movie, a classic.
