1. Unhealthy Air Conditions as Smoky Skies Plague Western Montana
Widespread smoke blanketed west- ern Montana last weekend, creating unhealthy air conditions, according to state health officials.
The Montana Department of Environ- mental Quality issued an air quality alert Aug. 3 for Lincoln County due to elevated particulate concentrations. Air quality in Libby was “unhealthy,” according to the agency.
State and local health officials recom- mend people with respiratory illness or heart disease, the elderly and children avoid prolonged exertion. Everyone else should limit prolonged exertion, the agency stated.
Numerous large wildfires in Wash- ington, Oregon and Northern Califor- nia are creating widespread smoke that is impacting the Pacific Northwest. The higher concentrations in Lincoln County arelikelyduetotheWolverineCreekfire in Washington, which was burning with extreme fire behavior and consumed 16,000 acres.

He’s been identified as Edward H. Folkwein of Columbia Falls.

Montana Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Matthew Quinn presented recommenda- tions for heightened security to the gov- ernor, who accepted them.
