Wildcat Spring Football Sundays

By Beacon Staff

As spring eases into early summer, the days grow longer and boys’ minds turn to…football?

In this photo series, Columbia Falls football players get out and have a little Sunday evening fun tossing the ball around. Several different quarterbacks tried their hand, each of them did a good job of moving the ball down the field in perfect 50 degree football weather.

Rather than go down onto the field and become a distraction, I chose to enjoy the fun from the east side parking lot. Great views, but the downside was I only recognized 3 of the boys in these photos.

In the 1st and 3rd shots, Jon Woody (light blue and white shorts) pursues a receiver. In the last shot, Nathan Woods (tall, white shirt, medium blue shorts) and his quarry (the quarterback, in black) watch a short pass play develop after the pass was caught. I also noticed Weston Bartkoski (not pictured here) taking a turn at quarterback.

One thing was clear during my time in the “parking lot press box”: the Wildcats appear to have several capable young arms to compete for the QB job. The lucky quarterback who wins the job appears to have a bevy of receivers who are willing to work hard for a catch.

These shots are just a sample of the hard work I saw by CFHS receivers, with several receptions made due to second and third efforts after initially competing in mid-air with their defenders.

After watching the guys run plays for about 20 minutes, I’m more than ready for cool fall evenings of Wildcat football.
